Don’t Shoot an Arrow Through Your Healthy Diet Plan

This Valentine’s Day, when Cupid strikes with love's arrow your healthy diet plan doesn’t have to suffer.  It just takes a little planning and you can successfully celebrate the occasion while keeping your diet on track.  The key is to consciously disconnect the candy and food from the celebration.  Remember, you are not celebrating candy and food.  You are celebrating yourself, your friendships and/or a special relationship.  With a little planning, you can have fun while honoring your commitment to lose weight.  Here are a few ideas to help you through this often challenging holiday.

Avoid the heart-shaped box of chocolates.  Tell your significant other that you love nothing more than getting flowers.  Stay away from the prix-fix, multi-course dinner with dessert included.  Remember, it helps if you choose to celebrate in ways that de-couple the holiday from food.   For instance, you could plan a romantic picnic which allows you to choose foods that fit your healthy weight loss program.  Snuggling in a cozy blanket and sharing an intimate moment beats stuffing yourself in a stuffy restaurant.   If a picnic is not for you, go on a sunset walk, hike or bike ride to make your date intentionally active.  If you get creative, you will think of many ways to celebrate that support your healthy weight loss program.

If winter storms preclude one of these options, consider a spa date with a couples massage.  This allows you to unhitch food from the celebration  while you relax together.  Other ideas for your Valentine’s evening include going to the museum or going out dancing.  Dancing the night away is a fun, active and sexy way to celebrate yourself, your friends and/or your loved one.
