Can More Sex Help You Lose Weight?

Last week on Late Show with David Letterman Dr. Oz had a few interesting things to say about weight loss.  While Dr. Oz reminded all of us how important losing weight is for our health, David Letterman entertained us by insisting that the Dr.’s good advice was, unfortunately, rather impossible to follow.  Letterman’s point was that even though most of us know which foods we should avoid if we are trying to lose weight, avoiding those foods is just not going to happen.  We are human, after all.  Then Dr. Oz posed an interesting theory about our human needs for sex, sleep and food.

Dr. Oz said that sleep, sex and food are three primary human needs.  If any one of these needs goes unmet we won’t function properly.  Our lives will not be in balance.  There is no harmony in our universe.  In today’s hectic, time-starved world, Dr, Oz argues that most of us don’t get enough sleep or sex.  The only thing we can easily get more of in our society is food.  Therefore, we foolishly try to make up for the unmet needs of sex and sleep by eating more.  If true, then you can see what a vicious circle it is.  The more we eat, the heavier we get, which typically leads to even less sex and lower quality sleep.  The result is a tired, undersexed society with a growing epidemic of obesity.  That doesn’t sound all that far-fetched.  For my part, I will try to post less often, sleep more and try to restore balance to my universe.

Do you think getting more sex and sleep could help you eat less?
