I wanted to have fun with my friends, but I didn’t want my months of healthy eating and successful weight loss to go down the drain in one disastrous night of indulgence. Then, I stopped myself at this very moment. Was I really contemplating foregoing what promised to be a fun evening with my friends because of my diet? Yes, I’ve made a commitment to stick to a healthy weight loss program, but no way was I going to let my diet run my life. I realized that slow and steady wins the race. I also realized that my weight loss journey is about embracing a new, healthier lifestyle, not about missing out on life’s opportunities. As much as I would like to lose all of my excess weight right now, I know the slow and steady approach to weight loss is the way to go for lasting, long-term results. It also means, that I don’t have to completely deprive myself of dessert or spending time with my friends. With this in mind, I baked up my favorite healthy dessert –baked apples with Truvia and cinnamon- and headed to the party.
Guess what? My dessert was the hit of the evening! All my friends loved that my baked cinnamon apples tasted delicious and fit into a healthy, natural weight loss program. I explained to my friends that my dessert was non-fat and low in calories, and that I was trying to stick to a healthy diet program. This was beneficial, because my friends were supportive and didn’t mind when I only wanted to taste little bites of their desserts instead of having entire servings. In the end, I was proud of myself for staying strong and keeping my desert intake to a minimum, while still having a great time with my girlfriends and not letting my weight loss program control my life. Also, I was able to share my favorite dessert and show my friends that healthy eating can be tasty, too!
What’s your favorite healthy dessert? How do you stick to your healthy diet during social gatherings?
